The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E wins the award for hybrid or electric vehicle of the year according to Moyens I/O

The Mustang Mach-E has done it again. Moyens I/O has chosen the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E as the winner of our first prize for hybrid or electric vehicle of the year. What makes this Ford EV one of the best electric or hybrid vehicles in 2021? The electric SUV is packed with safety features, thoughtful technology and a range that suits most lifestyles. Ford has spared no effort when designing the Mustang Mach-E, and it's evident when you first step into the comfortable cabin.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is Means I/O's best electric vehicle in 2021

The Ford Mustang Mach-E Moyens I/O is the best electric vehicle of 2021

No matter where you look, the Mustang Mach-E is quietly winning awards. It's not hard to see why, though. Ford took some risks with the latest EV, but those risks paid off. When our own writer, Allison Barfield, got the chance to drive the Mach-E, she was impressed.

“The Mach-E offers luxurious and practical features while being sporty and fun to drive. As the first Ford vehicle to be specifically designed as an electric vehicle without a gasoline or hybrid model, it's a success.

The Ford electric vehicle has a long list of standard safety features and technologies, such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and dual-zone climate control. Adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking and more are included. The electric SUV also has a 360 degree overhead camera and a front camera to allow the driver to maneuver the vehicle as needed.

The Mustang name is familiar to drivers, helping them ease the process of switching to an electric vehicle. This may have contributed to the rapid success of electric SUVs. While most drivers could be in electric cars for the foreseeable future, the electric Mustang is leading the way right now. No matter where you look, experts and regular drivers alike agree the Mach-E deserves praise.

Ford plans to ramp up production of Mustang Mach-E electric vehicle next year

Means I/O editor Allison Barfield had the opportunity to drive the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. The Mach-E has an impressive EPA-estimated range of 305 miles. The all-wheel-drive option cuts that to 270 miles. The Ford EV is available in four trim levels, including Select, Premium, California Route 1 and GT. Pricing for the 2021 model year is between $42,895 and $59,900.

At this point, Ford struggled to keep up with production of the popular vehicle. The automaker has promised to increase production next year. In fact, Ford hopes to more than double production of the Mach-E to around 70,000 next year alone. After that, the automaker hopes to double production again. Ford has also worked to give the 2022 Mustang Mach-E a longer range, which will likely continue to improve over time. Pricing for the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E starts at $43,895, and it still qualifies for the $7,500 federal tax credit.

In Ford's November 2021 sales figures, the data shows how well the Ford Mustang Mach-E sold. Ford sold 3,088 units in November alone, which was mostly hampered by semiconductor-related supply issues and pandemic-related slowdowns. So far this year, 24,791 Mach-Es have been sold.

Ford had a bumper year with vehicles like the Mustang Mach-E, Ford Bronco and Ford Maverick constantly in the news. In fact, these vehicles have the fastest turnover rates on dealer lots. The average is 12 days, which means Ford is focused on getting buyers into new cars fast.

Either way, it's clear that the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E is a winner. With different trim levels and other options available, Ford has created a Mach-E for everyone. It's a fun and practical option with a battery life long enough to satisfy most daily commutes. The best electric vehicle or hybrid vehicle of 2021 has been decided this year, but will the Mustang Mach-E still be able to hold its own against the competition next year? That's yet to be determined, but it looks like Ford has a good head start.

Means I/O gives the Ford Mustang Mach-E an expert rating of 8.4 out of 10

As Ford's first electric vehicle, the 2021 Mustang Mach-E had a lot to prove. However, that's exactly what it did in its first year on the market.

“This Mustang stays true to its sports car roots with impressive acceleration, responsive handling and improved performance. It serves as a relaxing daily driver with a highly engaging unbridled drive mode.

Allison Barfield | EngineBiscuit

With a variety of trim levels and options to choose from, the electric SUV is suitable for a variety of needs. Congratulations to Ford for making such a compelling choice in winning the first Medium I/O Hybrid or Electric Vehicle of the Year.
