If you need to add a second Google or Gmail account to your Android device, this guide will show you how. When setting up a new Android device, this is one of the first steps. However, adding a second account later can be confusing for some. With that in mind, here are some quick and easy instructions.

Whether it's for business, personal, or just another account for the kids, it's something many will need to do. The question was recently asked by a friend and I realized that it might not be easy for some to understand the option in the settings.

Fortunately, adding a second (or third) account is extremely easy. No matter the version of Android or the manufacturer of the device, the steps are the same. If you need Gmail accounts, it can be done the same way as our steps above. Just add another Google account to the device and you're done.

As a reminder, it's always a good idea to use strong passwords and a password manager. This way it is easy to manage more than one account on your device. The steps below will show you how to add a second account to your Android device, sync all of its information, or even remove one if needed.

Instructions for adding an account

First, head to the settings menu. To do this, drag down the notification bar and tap the gear-shaped settings button. Or find the app titled Settings in your app tray. Now you just need to go to the accounts and fill in the detailed information below.

Users can be prompted through 2-factor authentication, then there is an option to add payment information and agree to all terms. Just click all of that, or add whatever you want and we're done.

Now owners can go back to the Settings > Accounts section and select the tab titled Google to see both accounts. Here you can enable or disable what syncs, like contacts and more.

Other details

To delete the account, tap on the same “Google” option and tap on the account, then tap on the menu points at the top right and select .

It's also worth mentioning that you'll need to open Gmail at least once for it to recognize and sync emails from the second Google account. From here, you can change its settings and manage anything you need.

You can also easily switch between the two accounts in Gmail. Just tap the three-line menu button on the top left and a slide-out menu will appear. From there, tap your email address or the down arrow and select your second account to view it. Users can also use this same drop-down list to "Add Account" for Gmail if they wish.

In any case, you will add another Google account and another Gmail address to your Android device. There you go, enjoy. For more articles like this, check out our how-to guide portal.
