This guide will quickly show owners how to change the Galaxy S8's text messaging app. Out of the box, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ use Samsung Messages, but there are dozens on the Google Play Store.

All owners need to do is download a third-party text messaging app and set it as the default program in Settings. From there, the Galaxy S8 will only use it, instead of the "messages" that came pre-installed on the phone.

Above are a few different options that we recommend downloading. Then read the simple instructions to change yours today.

Anyone who has used a Samsung device in the past will feel right at home with Messages, but it lacks functionality or customization. That's why most choose to use something else.

How to Change Galaxy S8 Texting App

First, go to the Google Play Store and download one of many different third-party text apps. Textra is my favorite, GoSMS or Chomp are good, and a few others made our linked list above.

That's it, you have now successfully changed the texting app on the Galaxy S8.

More information

Older Android devices were getting double notifications if you downloaded a second texting app. This is no longer the case. Android will not let two be set as "default" at the same time. Also, many apps like Textra will have a big button at the bottom when you first open it. Make this process easier than ever.

As of now, it is the only texting app that will be able to send, receive or alert you about text messages. If you chose Textra (or many others), go in and change the font, style, colors, bubble colors, and even the notification icon. You can also change them for each contact, so set something personal for your friends or family members. It's a level of customization many appreciate that isn't available in Samsung's own messaging app.
