Although Spider-Man: No Homecoming was the highest-grossing film of 2021, the 2022 Oscars only nominated the Marvel Cinematic Universe film in one category. Fans and Jimmy Kimmel were upset that the third MCU Spider -Man movie didn't earn a nod in the Best Picture race. However, the film could still win two awards, thanks to a new category.

What awards could 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' win at the 2022 Oscars?

The Academy nominated Spider-Man: No Homecoming for Best Visual Effects at the 2022 Oscars. Other films up for the award include Dune , No Time to Die , Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Guys . free . Marvel movies notoriously only get nods in the Best Visual Effects category, but they've never won it. However, there's another award the Marvel movie could win at the 2022 ceremony.

The academy introduced a new category in 2022 called Oscars Fan Favorite. From February 14 to March 3, fans had the chance to vote for their favorite movie of the year via the academy's website or by using the #OscarsFanFavorite hashtag on Twitter. And immediately after the news broke, fans started tweeting their hearts out in support of Spider-Man: No Homecoming .

So Spider-Man: No Homecoming could win two awards, for Best Visual Effects and Fan Favorite Movie, at the 2022 Oscars.

What are the odds of 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' winning the 2022 Oscars?

Unfortunately, Spider-Man: No Homecoming is unlikely to win in the Best Visual Effects category at the 2022 Oscars. As mentioned above, an MCU movie has never won this award before, not even Black Panther . Moreover, many media are predicting that Dune is the favorite to win. However, an upset is always a possibility.

There's a good chance the third MCU Spider-Man movie will win the Oscars Fan Favorite award. And if we're being honest, Spider-Man: No Homecoming would have swept this year's awards show if fans had been able to vote in more categories. Luckily for Tom Holland and company, they have a say in a price.

Tom Holland and the producers wanted the academy to nominate the film for best picture

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Holland, Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige expressed their desire for the Oscars to nominate Spider-Man: No Homecoming in 2022. The article was published before the Academy announces the nominees.

“I've done Marvel movies. And I've also made films that have been talked about in the world of the Oscars. And the only difference, really, is that one is much more expensive than the other,” Holland explained. “But the way I break down the character, the way the director etches the story arc and the characters – it's all the same, just done on a different scale. So I think it's real art.

Pascal, producer of Spider-Man: No Homecoming , said, "Just because it's a certain kind of movie doesn't mean it's not quality movies. We all got into this business to make films that people want to see, that make people feel things. And I think this movie legitimately does that.

Feige added, “It's a good thing when people are in a theater and they stand up and applaud. It's a good thing when people wipe away tears as they think back to their last 20 years in film and what it meant to them. To me, that's a very good thing – the kind of thing the academy was founded, at the time, to recognize.

To see if Spider-Man: No Homecoming takes home all the awards, tune in to the 2022 Oscars on Sunday, March 27 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
