Create Rdio or Spotify Playlist from Shazam on iPhone

“Music is all around us, all you have to do is listen. »

I remember this line from the movie August Rush. Since then, I've become more aware of the sounds playing around me (natural and otherwise). August turned out to be a talented musician. I can't pull off the higher notes of Lost Stars (one day I will, Levine, one day). As the nerd that I am, being aware of the music for me is only half the battle. I need to identify it, remember it, and catalog it so I can come back to it.

That's why I love Shazam (remember to turn off notifications in iOS, they've become very clickable recently). No matter what genre of music I point it to, Shazam identifies it all. It could be purely instrumental music in an Italian cafe or a Bollywood song at the top of a busy Delhi street. Oddly, none of that is a problem for Shazam. Shazam introduced me to Angus and Julia Stone after all.

Stream to: Can't access Spotify or Rdio in your area? Use a VPN to enter. You can also just use Spotify in Chrome and control music using global shortcuts, without having to install the desktop app.

It's also amazing how many of these songs Rdio carries. Rdio was recently launched in India, and for around $2 a month I get unlimited streaming and ad-free offline downloads for 32 million songs.

Shazam+Radio

All of these "marked" songs would usually sit idly by in Shazam. But now you can log into an Rdio or Spotify account and have access to a playlist of all your Shazam'd songs.

It's great because now I will have instant access to all my digitized songs on all my devices.

You'll need a Premium account: Shazam can connect to Rdio and Spotify. While Spotify lets you create playlists for free, in Rdio it's a premium feature. Since I don't live in the US, I couldn't connect to Spotify. As far as I know, Spotify login also requires a premium account. Oh, and you can only use one service at a time, not both.

How to connect Rdio or Spotify with Shazam

In this example, I will connect Shazam to my Rdio account.

Open the Shazam app and go to My Shazam .

You will see the Equipment icon in the top toolbar. Tap on it and you will see an option called Connect to Rdio .

Tap on this option and you will see a promotional banner image. Tap Play Full Tracks, sign in with your Rdio account (not a free account, you'll need it with Rdio Unlimited) and Shazam will tell you that the playlist is created.

Even after downloading the Spotify app from the US app store and logging in with my free account, it wouldn't show up as an option in Shazam. Maybe because I only had the free plan or because Spotify is not officially supported in my country. But if Spotify is officially supported in your country, you should see the option.

Now all you have to do is open the Rdio app, go to Playlists and tap on My Shazam Tracks . Here, all the songs you have scanned with Shazam and which are available on Rdio will be displayed.

Although I couldn't test this on Spotify, I think the process and result will be similar. Log in with your upgraded account, wait for authentication, then enjoy the playlist.

watchOS 5 issues: 5 things you need to know

The watchOS 5 update is not a perfect release for some Apple Watch users. Here's what you need to know about watchOS 5 issues.

Although it is early, there are already reports of watchOS 5 installation issues and other errors that annoy and frustrate users. It's not very common, but there are some issues you should be aware of before upgrading.

Our watchOS 5 issues guide will help you understand the biggest issues users are facing on day one and throughout this month. We'll update the list as fixes arrive and more issues emerge.

We'll tell you where to look to find fixes for these issues and other resources to help you deal with the issues. You can also jump straight to our guide on how to fix watchOS 5 issues.

watchOS 5 Problems

What you need to know about watchOS 5 issues.

Some of the watchOS 5 issues are new, but others are related to watchOS 4 and may actually be general Apple Watch issues.

Early complaints point to watchOS 5 installation issues and errors. The iOS 12 update was not immediately available to all users, and some users may not immediately see the watchOS 5 update. You need to install iOS 12 to get the update on your watch.

Reports indicate that watchOS 5 download times are estimated at 2 hours or more. Some users are reporting not seeing the watchOS 5 update available.

Some users are reporting poor battery life on the Apple Watch, but it's still very early days and this may be due to any additional maintenance performed by the update after installation.

Some scattered reports indicate issues with Bluetooth and other connectivity issues, but nothing major has surfaced yet.

One problem reported by users is that the Walkie-Talkie app is missing on watchOS 5. If this happens, it's because you deleted the FaceTime app from your iPhone. Another problem is that it will try to connect forever.

Check out the Apple Discussion Forums and this Apple Watch Subreddit to learn about the issues others are having in real time.

If you haven't upgraded yet, you can use this list of reasons not to install watchOS 5 and why you should help you decide. Here's our handy guide on upgrading and what to do before installing watchOS 5.

watchOS 5

If you are planning to install watchOS 5, you should learn more about how it works for other users. This is especially important on older Apple Watch models like Series 1 and Series 2.

We've detailed the reasons for installing and not installing watchOS 5, and you can use them to decide for yourself whether this is a good update to install.

You should also look on Youtube , Apple Twitter discussion forums and reddit where users will post comments on how the watchOS 5 update worked for them.

This is the best place to learn more about real-world watchOS 5 performance issues and how it handles the Apple Watch Series 1.

How to fix watchOS 5 issues

The good news is that you can fix many watchOS 5 problems yourself without going to an Apple Store. Unfortunately, some fixes will require another update to Apple's watchOS 5.

We're working on a list of fixes for watchOS 5 issues. In the meantime, learn how to fix common Apple Watch issues. We also have a guide on how to fix Apple Watch bad battery life.

If you are having issues with the Walkie-Talkie app, there are known fixes. If you don't see the app, go to the App Store on your iPhone and download the FaceTime app. If you removed it as one of the stock apps that you can remove, you cannot use the Walkie Talkie app on your Apple Watch. If you see an error that it's connecting and it doesn't go over that, you need to enable Airplane Mode on your Apple Watch, wait a second, and then disable it. This should return you to Walkie Talkie mode.

You can also contact Apple Support on Twitter, use chat on Apple.com, and register for discussion forums.

If nothing solves your problems with watchOS 5, you can make an appointment with the local Apple Store for assistance. They can diagnose problems and can often help you fix the problem and, if necessary, offer you a replacement.

You can't downgrade your Apple Watch

Unlike the iOS 12 update, you can't downgrade to watchOS 4, so you can't quickly roll back if you run into a problem.

Apple doesn't support it, even unofficially. If you're having a problem that completely prevents you from using your Apple Watch, you'll need to visit an Apple Store, call support, or wait for the next update.

And after

You may have to wait for the next watchOS 5 update.

If you're having issues that won't go away with the information listed above, you'll have to wait for Apple to release a new watchOS update.

Luckily, we already know that Apple is working on watchOS 5.1, as it was briefly shown on stage in the fine print when they announced the Apple Watch 4.

Apple also usually releases a smaller update which could be watchOS 5.0.1 shortly after the major update. This small update will likely include bug fixes for common watchOS 5 issues.

Lock Individual Apps on Jailbroken iPhone with iAppLock

Recently, we wrote an article where we warned about fake apps on App Store that claim to lock other apps for you. Android makes it very easy to lock individual apps without any hassle. But the way iOS is built, it's not possible for an app to lock other apps — unless, of course, you have a jailbroken device.

So let's talk about a simple app called iAppLock that I personally use to lock individual apps on my iPhone. iAppLock can be installed on iOS devices running iOS 7 and above that have been jailbroken. The app can be downloaded for free from the Cydia store. Once you have downloaded and renewed your device, you will see the iAppLock icon on the springboard.

Locking apps using iAppLock

The first time you launch the app, it will start the initial setup. The app will ask you to set up a PIN or pattern lock and also set a recovery email which can be used to retrieve the code in case you forget the combination. Finally, turn on Lock Status in Settings to activate the app. Then go to the apps tab to add individual apps you want to lock.

The very first app I would suggest adding here is Cydia itself. This will ensure that no one can uninstall iAppLock without your permission.

I App Locker 3

In the free version of the app, you can lock a maximum of 5 apps, but that should be enough to get started. The pro version removes the limitation for just $3.99. So, after adding apps to the list, every time you try to open them, you have to authenticate before you can access the app. Locking can be extended to uninstalling the app and moving app icons on the Springboard.

In the app setting, you can choose to delay relocking the app once unlocked. Delayed locking can be set up to 30 minutes before the device is locked again. The application offers the possibility to add trusted Wi-Fi networks where the lock will be disabled for a certain period of time. The app has some extra features, but all of these can only be unlocked after paying for the premium version.

If by any chance you forget the password lock, it can be easily recovered by tapping the Forgot Password button. The app will send you an authentication email with a one-time PIN to unlock the device and set up a new lock.

Conclusion

The app is easy to set up and performs the task perfectly. I had no boring experience with the app and would definitely recommend it.

iPhone 5S and later users might find the traditional passcode and pattern lock a bit more old-fashioned than Touch ID, and they're absolutely right. Why enter a password when you can use biometric sensors? So don't forget to tune in to our next article where I talk about another app that brings Touch ID functionality when it comes to locking individual apps.
